Turkey Day Tips and Tricks

Thanksgiving is one of those time-honored traditions that everyone enjoys being a part of.

Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, mom’s green bean casserole, all the family is there including hungry, impatient, nieces and nephews.  How do they expect you NOT to burst a blood vessel making everything perfect for the big day as well as keeping everyone entertained?

Well don’t sweat because Life123.com has the tools you need to pull off the biggest Thanksgiving dinner of the century, with minimal stress.

First thing to think about when getting prepped for the big day is the food.  Having the right dishes ready for your loved ones to enjoy can make or break your Thanksgiving and the number one thing to think about is variety.

Is this your first time cooking a turkey and you’re not sure how to do it? Check out these tips on cooking a moist turkey, safely.

Of course all the originals should be there, the turkey, stuffing, yams, etc. and those take a good amount of time to make so ask your friends and fam to bring some of their favorite dishes to lighten your load a little as well as making them feel special for asking them to be a part of your dinner.

But we all know that the food doesn’t begin with the turkey, it’s all about the pre-dinner appetizers.  You don’t want your guests to get filled up too much before you unveil your thanksgiving creations so start them off with something light and preferably low-fat.

Shrimp cocktails, chips and salsa, and veggie trays are all perfect appetizers for everyone to enjoy without getting too full.

So everyone’s eaten, coffee and pie has been served, everyone’s relaxed and full, what do you do now?

Maybe some of your guests would enjoy the annual Thanksgiving NFL game or maybe the Thanksgiving parade is on but the kids don’t enjoy watching either of those and you can’t be having anyone not enjoying themselves at your party.

Try some cool party games to pull everyone out of their turkey comas and back into the spirit of the day. And if the kiddies don’t want to play games with the adults or the adults are just too tired to play, set the kids up making some turkey pinecones or other craft ideas.

With a little help from Life123.com we are more than positive you will have a fun and easy day with your loved ones. Happy Turkey Day!

A Glimpse into the Alkaline Diet; Transforming you from the Inside Out

It may be easier to order in pizza, but really what are the benefits of ordering a greasy, cheesy pie? Very few, if any. Reach Magazine TV along with Metabella Pilates in Studio City, CA, brings you a healthier alternative to take out: alkaline food, among many other healthy cooking classes that Metabella offers.

Our host James “J” Love had the opportunity to work with alkaline chef Andrea Rozsas AKA “The Alkaline Chef”. The benefits of an alkaline diet are endless. The benefits of eating an alkaline diet can eliminate serious health challenges in a remarkably brief period of time. Plus it can replenish your energy, relieve anxiety and headaches. Alkaline diets emphasize fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes.

“I chose to become a professional alkaline chef after I experienced my very own health miracle. I have been teaching and cooking for people for several years now and I have seen numerous miracles in friends and clients,” says Chef Rozsas.

Don’t get us wrong, pizza is delicious but balanced meals like the recipe for Chicken Paprika below, will transform you from the inside out.

“Eating healthy sometimes translates into eating cardboard, but alkaline food tastes delicious,” J-Love said after tasting the Paprikas, “The alkaline food was surprisingly a great tasting meal, and of course very healthy.  I’m glad I had the opportunity to try alkaline food, I’d expected it to be less than appetizing and expensive BUT it was neither. The alkaline food was delicious and it won’t break the bank.”

Stay tuned for our health and wellness episode taped at Metabella Pilates. Watch J-Love cooking with and interviewing Andrea Rozsas.

MAKE YOUR FAMILY A DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY ALKALINE MEAL TODAY!

Chicken Paprikas served on a pile of quinoa, with beetroot salad, goat cheese and pecans.

Chicken Paprikas: Ingredients

-2 lbs. of chicken (We used boneless-skinless organic chicken breast but the choice is yours), 1 onion (finely chopped), 1 teaspoon of paprika, Salt, Pepper, Flour, 1 tablespoon of chili (fresh or dry), Organic sour cream

Directions

First we have to sauté the onions a little bit then add the paprika and right after mixing them together we have to pour 1.5-2 cups of water into the pot. We season this liquid with salt and pepper (you can add jalapenos or chilis for spice) and add the chopped chicken to it and cover it. Cook it for about 20-25 minutes on low heat.
We make a mixture of 3 tablespoons of sour cream and 1 tablespoon of flour. Mix it together and slowly add it to the chicken.
(Add a little bit of fluid—preferably from the chicken dish—to it before pouring it. Cook it together for about another 5 minutes and now you can take a deep break and smile. Done! : )

Quinoa:
Ingredients

-1 cup Quinoa, 2 cups of water, Sautéed onions and sweet peas

Directions

We boil 1 cup of quinoa in 2 cups of water then we turn it down and cook it  on low heat until the grain absorbs all the liquid. In another pan we saute the onions and in another one we cook the frozen peas for about 5 minutes. (Don’t overcook it)
At the end we mix them all together and season it with salt and olive oil. Ready:)

Beet salad with goat cheese and pecans: Ingredients

1 lb. beets (boiled in skins and cooled), Half of medium onion (finely chopped), 1 bunch of green onion, Plenty of Olive oil, salt, Juice of 1 lemon, Goat cheese and pecans (the amount is up to you)

Directions

Peel beets and chop them into small cubes. Add all other ingredients. Mix them together and serve it at room temperature.
